Thousands of people across Muskoka still without power following severe thunderstorm

Thousands of people are still without power across Muskoka following the May 18 thunderstorm.

According to Kaitlyn Forde, senior communications advisor with Hydro One, approximately 9,000 customers in the Huntsville area have been impacted by the current hydro outage.

She said in many areas damage has been assessed, and crews are actively working to restore power.

“After a storm, Hydro One prioritizes restoration in a way that actually brings power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time,” she said. “We’re moving additional crews into the hardest hit areas, such as Huntsville and Bracebridge, to support that restoration.”

Forde said the estimated time of restoration may change when crews arrive on site and begin repairs, depending on whether they find any additional damage or needed repairs.

According to the Hydro One outage map, in Huntsville, the current restoration time is approximately 4 p.m.
