Storm causes widespread power outages across Muskoka

Thousands of Hydro One customers across the region are without power.

Pockets of local outages stretch from Sundridge through Huntsville and down to Port Carling. According to Hydro One’s outage map, approximately 14,000 customers are without power across the Muskoka region after storms rolled through last night. Restoration times vary, and many are still unknown, as the extent of the damage across the region is still being assessed.

In a social media post this morning (April 19), Trillium Lakelands District School Board officials said the outage includes Huntsville High School, Huntsville Public School, Pine Glen Public School, Riverside Public School. All schools remain open to students and staff. Restoration times are currently unknown.

The Central Region OPP is advising the public in the Huntsville area to avoid non-essential travel. Police say the storm caused multiple downed trees and hydro poles, blocking several roadways. They say if travel is necessary, drive with extra caution.
