Huntsville Festival of the Arts launches scholarship program for local youth

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) has launched its annual Scholarship Awards Program, offering support to local youth pursuing their passions in the performing arts.

The program provides financial assistance for youth studying or planning to study music, theatre, or dance. HfA also encourages applications from students with experience in the technical side of the performing arts, including stage management, lighting, set design, and sound.

Two categories of funding are available through the scholarship program. Junior scholarships are open to youth aged 16 and under, with nominations accepted for honorariums of up to $300 to help cover the cost of instruction or equipment.

Senior scholarships are available to applicants aged 17 and older, with awards of up to $1,500 to support continued artistic training and development.

Applicants and nominees must live in the greater Huntsville and Lake of Bays area. The deadline to apply is March 26 at 5 p.m.

Auditions and interviews will take place on March 29 at 4:30 p.m. at the Algonquin Theatre, evaluated by adjudicators with approval from the HfA Education Committee.

“Nurturing the creativity of our multi-talented young people and helping them build a lasting connection to the arts is central to HfA’s mission,” said Scott Acton, Board President. “We are proud to offer financial support that helps them continue their artistic education and pursue their passions.”

Since the program began in 1997, more than 100 local youth have received financial support.
