Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital working to strengthen obstetrical care in region

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) has partnered with Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital to strengthen obstetrical care across the region.

During the Jan. 28 general committee meeting, Cheryl Harrison, MAHC president and CEO, provided council with an update on the partnership and process to improve obstetrical care in Muskoka.

“Obstetrics at Muskoka Algonquin, there’s been a lot of uncertainty around it. I’d love to be able to say we’ve got more certainty, but we still have work ahead of us,” said Harrison.

According to the MAHC website, the partnership builds on a strong foundation of collaboration and trusted clinical relationships and is focused on improving coordination, consistency, and continuity of care, while ensuring services remain safe, sustainable, and patient-centred over the long term.

She said they have received support from Ontario Health and the Ministry of Health as they continue their collaborative efforts.

“We recognize the uncertainty around obstetrical services at the South Muskoka site and are actively exploring options to ensure high-quality, sustainable care,” said Harrison.

Harrison said further updates will be added to the website as they come.
