Township of Lake of Bays adopts 2026 Budget with 4.3 per cent tax increase

The Township of Lake of Bays officially adopted the 2026 Budget on Dec. 9, with an estimated tax rate increase of 4.27 per cent.

According to township officials, it comes after Council directed staff on Nov. 11 to present options for lowering the overall levy impact.

After a deliberation process and public review, the township decided on a final tax rate increase of 4.27 per cent, lowering it from the originally proposed 5.56 per cent.

For homeowners with a property assessed at $300,000, the Township portion of their tax bill is expected to increase by $28.83.

Officials said the tax rate increase will enable the township to advance the strategic priorities set by council while maintaining essential services for residents.

Some of the strategic priorities include the Dwight Library expansion and Community Centre upgrades, along with the resurfacing of more than 23 kilometres of roads, bridge repairs, and upgrades and maintenance to municipal facilities and public spaces.

The remaining priorities cover additional staffing in planning, building, and library services to meet evolving demands, along with new fire service staffing to support the Township’s transition to an independent fire department.

Officials said the 2026 Budget and Business Plan will be posted on the Township’s website once finalized.
