District increases rates and fees for services and programs

The District of Muskoka has implemented an increase in rates and fees for its programs and services as part of the 2026 Budget.

The rate adjustments started on Jan. 1 and, according to District officials, will support vital services that contribute to the community’s well-being.

Among the services affected by the rate adjustments are the Port Carling Locks.

Officials said the rate increases are necessary to cover rising operating costs and fund essential capital upgrades at the locks and their associated facilities.

Hauled sewage rates have also been affected and will increase by just over $3.50 to $39.89 per cubic meter discharged.

District officials said the increased rates for these services will fund required capital and operational upgrades, ensuring both regulatory compliance and the fiscal viability of the facilities.

Additionally, the various solid waste fees at District Waste Transfer Stations have increased.

The district encourages residents to sort waste carefully to reduce the impact of new fees.

Despite the overall rate increases, the minimum load fee at transfer stations remains unchanged at $15 for mixed and unsorted waste.

Details on the new service rates and fees can be found at www.muskoka.on.ca.
