District of Muskoka launches programs to help residents with flood debris

The District of Muskoka has launched temporary fee relief programs for eligible flood-damaged residential waste.

According to district officials, the programs are intended to help residents dispose of flood debris, as it is not collected at the curb.

Officials said one of the programs will provide a one-time flood debris disposal voucher, which will allow residents to drop off a full load of flood debris with no tipping fees. The voucher must be presented before unloading, collected by staff at the time of use, and picked up in person or by an authorized representative.

District officials said this voucher will allow residents to dispose of water-damaged furniture, mattresses, and household items, as well as drywall, wood, insulation, and other building materials exposed to floodwater. It can also be used for appliances and electronics affected by flooding, branches, logs, and yard waste mixed with debris, and other mixed waste that cannot be sorted through regular curbside collection.

Voucher pick-up is available at 70 Pine Street during regular business hours and at the Rosewarne Landfill during select times.

The other program waives fees for freon appliance electronics disposal, allowing residents to dispose of flood-damaged appliances containing refrigerants, such as fridges or freezers.

According to officials, applicants must live in Muskoka and have materials damaged by the April 2026 flooding event that are not covered by insurance. Applicants must also provide proof of ownership, such as a property tax bill, driver’s license, or utility bill.

Officials said both programs end May 25 or earlier if funding limits are reached.

Residents are encouraged to check with their insurance provider before applying for a voucher or fee relief. For more information or to apply, click here.
