The Township of Muskoka Lakes officially adopted the 2026 Mayor’s Budget on Nov. 28, with an estimated tax rate increase of 8.6 per cent.
According to the staff report, 3.6 per cent of the increase will be allocated to day-to-day operations and programs, including administration and emergency services. The remaining 5.0 per cent will be directed to essential Township investments to upgrade decades-old roads, bridges, and facilities for years to come.
For homeowners with a property assessed at $300,000, the Town portion of their tax bill is expected to increase by $41.55.
Mark Donaldson, Director of Financial Services and Treasurer, said the tax increase will enable the Township to make strategic, priority investments in capital renewal and maintain assets, keeping them safe, functional, and serviceable.
Officials said some of the key investments planned for next year include dedicating $8.7 million toward road repairs and rehabilitation, allocating $3.9 million to maintain indoor and outdoor Township facilities and equipment, and directing $3.6 million to fire and emergency services.
“This year’s municipal budget is more than just a financial plan; it’s a story,” said Mayor Peter Kelley. “A story shaped together by Council, staff, and the Muskoka Lakes community reflecting shared values and collective goals, while committing to responsible financial planning that protects our unique character and prepares us for the future.”
