Muskoka Community Foundation launches Huntsville community fund

The Muskoka Community Foundation, in partnership with the Town of Huntsville, has created the Huntsville Community Fund to help increase access to local healthcare, and celebrate the diversity of the local community through a dedicated, safe and reflective space.

According to officials, this community fund will provide support to organizations and programs that are aligned with the Town’s strategic priorities and share the values of the Muskoka Community Foundation.

“The Muskoka Community Foundation is excited to work with the Town of Huntsville to support organizations that provide necessary and innovative programs that will enhance the lives of those living in Huntsville,” said Mary Ellen McIntyre, executive director of the Foundation.

“The Community Fund is an opportunity for residents, local businesses and seasonal homeowners to combine their efforts to create a legacy that is far more difficult to achieve independently. No matter the size of the gift, the impact will be long lasting.”

Along with the creation of the fund comes the launch of two projects: Healthcare Professional Attraction and Retention, and Unity Path.

The Healthcare Professional Attraction and Retention project will help fund ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare for residents by attracting and retaining medical professionals.

The second project, Unity Path, is designed to recognize the diversity within Huntsville through a dedicated, safe and reflective space. The conceptual design highlights veterans, accessibility, cultural diversity, and both the Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+ communities. Officials say, the completed installation will showcase signage at Trinity United Church and an immersive pathway experience beside Town Hall.

“Huntsville residents are very engaged, and they want their dollars to stay local, these projects will support healthcare for our community and an installation to reflect the diversity of Huntsville,” said Mayor Nancy Alcock.

Officials say additional projects may be added in the future, provided they meet charitable thresholds and demonstrate community benefit. Possible areas include affordable housing, mental health initiatives, inclusive public spaces, food security, recreation, arts and culture, heritage programs, and educational bursaries.
