Walks of Bays raises more than $12,000 for Raise Muskoka

The Walk of Bays fundraiser has raised $12,525 for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Raise Muskoka campaign.

Local twins Ava and Theo Russell took on the 24-hour 80-kilometre walk around Lake of Bays Aug. 22 to 23, joined by friends, family, and community supporters.

The fundraiser included designated community stops at Pizza on Earth in Dorset on Aug. 22 and Miss Nelle’s Cafe in Baysville on Aug. 23, where supporters gathered to make donations, encourage the walkers, and take part in the event.

The twins launched the initiative last year, raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. This year, they turned their attention to Raise Muskoka, a community-driven fundraising campaign to support the construction of a new Huntsville hospital.

Theo Russell said this year’s event drew an even larger turnout, with dozens of people showing up at the stops and joining the walk at various points, some even participating for the full walk.

The fundraising page remains open, and the twins are encouraging the community to help them reach their $25,000 fundraising goal.
