The Huntsville Hospital Foundation held a celebration for the nine-year milestone of its Business Cares program, which has successfully raised almost $2 million.
The celebration took place at Deerhurst Resort on Nov. 19, gathering more than 75 guests.
Trish Kruusmagi, development officer with the Foundation, said local businesses play a vital role in strengthening healthcare close to home.”
“The Business Cares Initiative was started in 2016 with the goal of forty businesses coming on board to pledge twenty-five thousand dollars each for the hospital,” said Kruusmagi.
She said that while the program’s starting goal was to raise one million dollars, they are proud to report they have now surpassed that amount.
“We have fifty-eight partners to date, and we’ve raised almost two million dollars since the program started, and we have 2.4 million dollars in pledges or promises from the local business community,” she said.
Kruusmagi said over the last two years, the program has retained nine renewed members, in addition to gaining seven new members in the past year alone.
She said during the event, they presented a $1.8 million cheque to Dave Uffelmann, Chair of the MAHC Board, for equipment and the final MRI payment. They also spoke about the impact of the new MRI, central patient monitors, and other items funded by the program and other donors.
“Together, we are building a healthier future for our community,” said Kruusmagi.
The Business Cares program brings local business owners and leaders together in support of the hospital. Each participating business owner commits a $5,000 annual donation for five years.
