A Gravenhurst fire official says a home was saved by a working smoke alarm.
The Gravenhurst Fire Department was called to a basement apartment Monday morning in response to a 9-1-1 call.
A stove had been left on in a basement apartment on Narrows Road and filled the apartment with smoke, which set off the alarm.
A young man sleeping in a neighbouring apartment discovered the empty apartment filled with smoke and immediately called 9-1-1.
Chief Larry Brassard says without a working smoke alarm this incident could have quickly turned into a serious fire.
