Canada commits to global leadership in child health care

This spring, Canada is hosting a summit to talk about the $2.85-billion Muskoka Initiative that was launched at the 2010 G8 Summit. According to recent stats, the global number of deaths in children under the age of five has dropped significantly from 12-million in 1990 to 6.6-million in 2012.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement says the summit in May will help to strengthen global health systems by reducing disease and improving nutrition.

The summit is being held in Toronto on May 28th to May 30th. Clement says, so far Canada is on track to meeting it’s Muskoka commitment with 80 per cent of the funding already handed out.
