Muskoka Lakes Fire Department launches new non-emergency number

The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department has launched a new non-emergency number for the community.

According to officials, community members can call 705-909-0001 for situations that do not pose an immediate threat to life, health or property.

Officials said situations that could be reported through the non-emergency number include previous fires that are no longer active but may require fire crews’ awareness or assessment, as well as assistance with smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The number can also be used to report illegal burns, such as burning without a permit or during a fire ban, and other situations that require fire crews’ attention or follow-up but pose no immediate risk to people or property.

Officials said 911 remains the number to call in an emergency. Anyone unsure whether a situation is an emergency is urged to call 911.
