A team of five Muskoka golfers are preparing to compete at the PGA Scramble National Final.
The national championship tournament will take place at Cabot Links Golf Course in Inverness, Nova Scotia this October and features more than 190 qualifiers from across Canada.
The Muskoka team consists of husband-and-wife Matt and Karly Dietrich, Matt’s brother Mark Dietrich and his wife, Jessica Bickell, and PGA professional Daniel Turner.
The team won the Northeastern Ontario Regional Final this week at Manitou Ridge Golf Club in Parry Sound, claiming the regional title and earning their spot in the national tournament. They qualified for the regional final by winning a local qualifier at Muskoka Bay Resort earlier this summer.
The PGA Scramble uses a team-based format that factors each golfer’s handicap into the scoring, allowing players with a registered Golf Canada handicap to compete alongside golfers of varying skill levels.
For Matt and Karly Dietrich, the trip also represents an opportunity to visit a course they have long hoped to play.
“I’ve always wanted to go to Cabot, it’s been on my bucket list for a while,” Karly Dietrich said. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
“It’s one of those places where you always say, ‘We’ll get there someday,’” Matt Dietrich said. “We just didn’t think this was how we’d get there.”
