YWCA Muskoka to hold their first ladies’ charity golf tournament in September

YWCA Muskoka will be hosting their first ladies’ charity golf tournament ‘Swing for Your Sisters’ on September 10 at North Granite Ridge Golf Club in Port Sydney.

Officials said the day will have a shotgun start at 11:00 A.M. and will have games, prizes, a silent auction and dinner at the end of the day.

Director of Community Engagement, Laura Sundy, said the funds from this event will help fund local YWCA programs for women, girls and gender-diverse people across our district.

“We typically do ‘walk a mile in their shoes’ in the fall, but we’re finding that people in our community have a real desire for events that are fun and uplifting,” said Sundy. “So that’s what we’re trying to do now with a golf tournament for ladies, that’s just going to be a really fun day.”

Sundy said the tournament will be a “best ball scramble” to be inclusive of players of all skill levels.

“It helps make it fun and more accessible for people that might be beginner golfers or intermediate golfers,” she said. “We know a lot of avid golfers who have signed up and are very excited about the tournament because it’s just going to be a really fun day to celebrate women – it’s also going to be a good networking opportunity if you are a local business owner and you might want to join us for the day and meet some new people.”

She said for those who are not able to golf but still want to take part in the event, they have a limited number of dinner only tickets available.

According to Sundy, YWCA Muskoka offers a variety of women’s programs, including women in business, wellness and mindfulness programs and a local national emergency survivor fund.

“The proceeds from this tournament will support a wide variety of women’s programming to help people who live in our community,” said Sundy.

She said they are still looking for supporters in sponsorships and donations for the silent auction.
