Town of Bracebridge to install over 175 updated speed limit signs across municipality

The Town of Bracebridge is set to install over 175 updated speed limit signs on municipal roads in rural areas of town.

According to officials, the changes aim to improve stopping sight distances, reduce the risk of serious collisions, and support more accessible housing by easing driveway entrance requirements.

Officials said the changes are part of the town’s continued implementation of speed limit changes, which were approved in 2023.

The speed limit changes follow the Town’s first-ever Transportation Master Plan (TMP), developed in collaboration with the District of Muskoka.

The master plan outlines transportation infrastructure recommendations and priorities for the Town through 2044, including reducing the default speed limit on municipal roads.

As a result, town officials said selected rural roads will shift to 40 or 50 km/h, depending on factors like road curvature, surface type, and traffic volume.

Motorists are reminded that new speed limits become enforceable once the updated signs are installed.
