The Township of Muskoka Lakes will be conducting roadside mowing starting on July 6.
According to officials, this is part of the Township’s roadside mowing program, a road maintenance initiative aimed at improving safety by clearing and preventing encroaching vegetation, while also enhancing sightlines and roadside drainage.
As part of the program, officials said they will avoid cutting milkweed plants to help protect monarch butterfly populations, which have declined significantly in North America.
The Township said monarchs are currently listed as a species of “special concern” under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act, 2007.
Officials said work is expected to be completed by late July.
Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to remain cautious near mowing operations and pass equipment only when safe.
