Annual Bala Cranberry Festival returns Oct. 16 to 18

The annual Bala Cranberry Festival returns this weekend, bringing live entertainment, vendors and family-friendly activities to downtown Bala.

The festival runs Friday (Oct. 16) through Sunday (Oct. 18) and celebrates the community’s cranberry heritage, arts and crafts, and seasonal produce.

First held in 1984, the event is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers and hosted by the Township of Muskoka Lakes and Muskoka Lakes Farm.

According to officials, the festival aims to extend the tourism season while promoting Bala’s identity as the Cranberry Capital of Ontario.

The event is considered one of Ontario’s premier arts and crafts shows, featuring hundreds of vendors.

Organizers say the non-profit festival benefits more than 500 local community groups and non-profit associations. It generates tourism revenue that supports local businesses, while proceeds help fund scholarships, programs and initiatives for local organizations and individuals in need.
