The Town of Bracebridge is conducting its Sewage System Maintenance Inspection Program until the end of August.
According to the town, the program aims to safeguard the health of local lakes, rivers, streams, and groundwater systems, while also helping property owners ensure their private on-site septic systems are operating safely and efficiently.
This year’s inspections are being conducted on waterfront properties around Clear Lake, Little Leech Lake, Bird Lake, Prospect Lake, Bigwind Lake, and Spring Lake.
Officials said property owners can expect an initial site visit during which inspectors will complete a visual assessment of the property, noting the number and type of buildings connected to the system, the system type, and any visible signs of malfunction.
Property owners do not need to be present, officials said, as inspectors will access properties during standard hours while carrying official Town of Bracebridge identification. After the inspection, a notice will be left on site confirming the visit, followed by a letter outlining the results and any required maintenance or repairs.
Officials said property owners play a vital role in mitigating environmental risks, protecting their property values, and safeguarding community drinking water sources.
