YWCA Muskoka has launched the 2026 Send a Girl to Camp fundraising campaign to support its local youth programs during the summer and throughout the school year.
“Summer camp is a rite of passage for many kids, especially here in Muskoka. But for too many families, cost keeps camp out of reach,” said Amy Jones, Director of Youth Programs at YWCA Muskoka. “The Send a Girl to Camp campaign helps us keep camp fees low and ensures every girl who wants to attend has the opportunity.”
Officials said last summer, one in three campers required financial assistance to attend Girlz Unplugged; a number they say reflects the growing financial pressures facing Muskoka families.
Laura Sundy, director of community engagement, said one of the programs the funding will support is the Girlz Unplugged Summer Day Camps, which are week-long, girls-only recreational programs for youth ages 9 to 11.
“We have been running Girls Unplugged in Muskoka for over 30 years now, and since 2022, we’ve given out 120 camp subsidies to help send more kids to our Girls Unplugged summer camps,” said Sundy.
She said the impact on young girls in the community is that the camps focus on building confidence, learning about setting boundaries, developing critical thinking skills, promoting body positivity, and addressing issues that are important today.
The campaign runs throughout June. For more information or to donate online, click here.
