Early morning fire destroys two Huntsville homes

A pair of neighbouring homes in Huntsville were destroyed in a fire early this morning (June 5).

At approximately 4:51 a.m., the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at the intersection of Lorne Street South and Minerva Street West.

Firefighters from Station 1 in Huntsville, Station 5 in Port Sydney, and Station 30 in Hillside responded to the scene, with a total of 21 personnel and eight apparatus.

Upon arrival, crews found flames visible on the exterior of two neighbouring homes, as well as a parked vehicle located between them. Firefighters began an immediate attack on both fires using multiple hose lines. According to the fire department, audible smoke alarms were sounding as crews entered both homes.

The department was assisted at the scene by the Ontario Provincial Police, Muskoka EMS, and Hydro One.

As of the latest update, the incident remains ongoing. Fire officials say the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the fire will be investigated once the blaze has been fully extinguished.

Updates will be provided when available.
