A 36-year-old Huntsville woman is facing an impaired operation charge following a single e-scooter collision.
On September 11 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Huntsville OPP responded to a report of the collision on Earls Road in Huntsville.
As a result of an impaired driving investigation, the Huntsville woman was charged with operation while impaired.
She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 20.
Police are reminding the public that impaired driving laws apply to e-scooter operators and operating an e-scooter while impaired by alcohol or drugs is a criminal offence and can result in criminal charges.
Officials also say the Town of Huntsville has not opted into the provincial pilot program that permits the use of e-scooters, therefore e-scooters are not permitted on public roads or in other areas governed by municipal by-laws in the town. Their use is generally limited to private property with the permission of the property owner.
Police are reminding riders that they are responsible for knowing and following all applicable laws and municipal by-laws before operating an e-scooter.
