19-year-old killed by falling tree south of Huntsville

A 19-year-old man is dead following a severe thunderstorm that swept through the Huntsville and surrounding area last night (May 18).

Members of the Huntsville OPP responded to multiple calls for service beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m., after strong winds brought down trees and hydro lines across roads throughout the region.

Police say officers were called to Clearwater Lake Road in Port Sydney at around 9 p.m., where the man had been struck by a falling tree. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The storm left hazardous conditions across the area, and Huntsville OPP are urging residents to use caution while travelling and to avoid areas impacted by storm damage whenever possible.
