Firefighters fight fire on Bala Park Island

Muskoka Lakes firefighters, along with several other area fire departments, responded to a fire on Bala Park Island.

Fire crews said that on May 5, just before 5 p.m., Muskoka Lakes firefighters, along with crews from Bala, Torrance, Walkers Point, and Milford Bay, were dispatched to a fast-moving wildfire.

Upon arrival, fire crews said they noticed high winds pushing the flames from the rail tracks toward four nearby structures. Specialized forestry tactics and equipment were used to encircle the blaze. After battling the fire for two hours, it was under control by 7 p.m.

Fire officials said the response was made possible thanks to an early warning and a coordinated effort.
