Huntsville Town Hall closed after small fire

Huntsville Town Hall will remain closed for the rest of the day (Aug. 24) after a small fire broke out in a public washroom.

At approximately 11:02 this morning, the Huntsville Fire Department was dispatched to Town Hall after the building’s fire alarms were activated. According to officials, maintenance staff traced the activation to the public washroom on Main Street, where they discovered thick black smoke and called 911.

Officials say firefighters located a small fire in the washroom, which they quickly extinguished using a portable fire extinguisher. Damage was contained to the washroom area, and no injuries were reported.

Crews then ventilated the building and turned it back over to maintenance at approximately 12:02 p.m.

Fire Prevention Officers are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Residents are being encouraged to monitor the Town of Huntsville’s website and social media channels for updates on when the building will reopen.
