A 50-year-old Huntsville man is facing charges after a disturbance near a local school yesterday (April 1).
According to Huntsville OPP, officers were called to Brunel Road near Riverside Public School at 3:05 p.m. after school staff reported a man pacing along the road, waving a sign, and shouting about his disdain for people.
Police say they recognized the individual upon arrival and were aware of existing court conditions requiring him to keep the peace. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Huntsville OPP detachment.
As a result, the accused has been charged with criminal harassment and breach of recognizance.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing today (April 2) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.
Police said there was no risk to public safety, and no students or staff were harmed. The incident is considered isolated, and officers commend school staff for prioritizing student safety and taking appropriate action.
