The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation to celebrate its 14 annual Coldest Night of the Year event

The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is going to celebrate its 14th annual Coldest Night of the Year event on Feb. 28.

The Coldest Night of the Year, which happens across Canada, is a walk to raise funds and awareness for organizations supporting those experiencing hunger, poverty, and homelessness.

In Huntsville, the event meet up starts at 4 p.m. with the walk starting at 5 p.m. at The Table Plaza (2 Cann Street). Walkers will then cross over to the sidewalk and the mapped route, ending back at The Table Plaza.

“A lot of people don’t typically spend time outside,” said Heather Cassie, executive director and founder of the food bank. “They usually go from their vehicle to their workplace or into a store. So, this gives them a little bit of an experience of what it would be like to be outside in the cold for a little time, whether walking two kilometres or five kilometres.”

Cassie said this is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year and that they are hoping to raise $110,000. Funds raised during the event will support the foundation’s services.

She said after the walk, participants are welcome to have a “light supper” outside the Table Plaza between six and seven.
