The South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is celebrating an immense show of community support after raising $100,000 in less than a week to purchase urgently needed diagnostic equipment for the South Muskoka Hospital.
Foundation officials say donors quickly stepped forward to fund a new tissue processor, a vital piece of laboratory equipment used to diagnose cancers and other serious medical conditions. While the foundation plans annually for capital needs, the tissue processor was an unexpected replacement that required immediate action.
Leah Walker, Executive Director of the SMHF, said once the need was shared publicly, donations began arriving immediately.
“It’s incredible to see what our community can accomplish,” said Walker. “People care deeply about the health of their families and neighbours, and we are so grateful.”
The new tissue processor will ensure biopsies continue to be completed efficiently and accurately. With the funds secured, the hospital laboratory will return to operating with two fully functioning machines, helping maintain timely diagnostic services for patients.
The SMHF expressed sincere thanks to every donor who responded to the appeal, noting that strong community support and fundraising efforts play a critical role in sustaining safe, high-quality care across Muskoka.
