A seventh person has been arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion that occurred in the Hillside area, east of Huntsville on Canada Day.
On December 17, a 25-year-old from Toronto was arrested and is facing over a dozen charges, including robbery using a firearm, kidnapping, assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement. The accused was scheduled to attend a bail hearing in court in Bracebridge on December 18.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on July 1, Huntsville OPP officers responded to reports of an armed home invasion at a private residence in the Hillside area. A major manhunt commenced and as the situation advanced, the OPP extended their investigation beyond the original location, which led to a road closure of Highway 11 in both directions between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road, and between Canning Road and Graham Road. A hold and secure order was issued for stranded motorists during the incident but was later lifted the same day.
Various specialized units were deployed to the area, which included the OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit. Aviation Services provided aerial support, while crisis negotiators and crime units were actively engaged in the response.
As a result, six individuals were arrested and charged, including a 22-year-old from Mississauga, a 27-year-old from Oshawa, a 20-year-old from Ajax, a 20-year-old from Brampton, a 26-year-old from North York, and a 16-year-old from Toronto. They are all facing multiple charges, including robbery using a firearm, kidnapping, assault with a weapon, breaking and entering, and theft of a motor vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and additional suspects, who may be armed and dangerous, remain at large. Police are also looking for a stolen silver Honda CR-V with Ontario plate CZFE 895.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Huntsville OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
