Hydro One officials encourage residents to be prepared for potential power outages

Hydro One officials are encouraging residents to be prepared for potential power outages this winter.

According to Bianca Pizzo, Media Relations Coordinator, restocking emergency kits and essential items like water, non-perishable food, cash, blankets, flashlights, and medication are a key part of preparation.

“Don’t forget about pets. Pets are going to need some non-perishable food as well if there’s going to be an extended power outage,” she said.

In case of an outage, Pizzo said customers should limit access to their fridge or freezer and ensure any operating generator is placed outside, far from windows or vents.

“It’s also critical that people stay safe by remaining as far away from any fallen power lines as possible, at least 10 meters back,” said Pizzo.

She recommends checking the Hydro One outage map as the best way to stay updated and know what to expect regarding outages in your community.
