The Muskoka Housing Task Force is hosting an event on Nov. 22 to raise awareness about homelessness in the region, reduce stigma, and inspire local solutions.
The event, “Housing First: It Takes a Village”, will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre on National Housing Day.
“Together, we can deepen understanding of homelessness in Muskoka, see how local services and supports are working together, and discover how individuals and community groups can be part of the solution – taking meaningful steps toward housing for everyone, a Muskoka where everyone has a place to call home,” said officials.
The Muskoka Housing Task Force is a group of community members, municipal councillors, and staff from the District and Muskoka’s area municipalities who are dedicated to supporting the creation and maintenance of affordable and attainable housing in Muskoka.
Over the years, the Task Force has explored the impacts of homelessness and provided feedback on policy and program updates for the Muskoka Affordable Housing Initiatives Program.
“No matter who you are, whether you’re a local business owner, healthcare worker, student, or long-time resident of Muskoka, the housing issue impacts us all,” said officials.
The event is free and open to all who are interested in learning about homelessness in Muskoka. It will feature stories from individuals who have experienced homelessness, insights from local service providers on crucial supports, and offer opportunities to understand the complex factors that contribute to a person becoming homeless.
