Rotary Club of Gravenhurst launches online 50/50 draw

The Rotary Club of Gravenhurst is inviting the community to take part in its first-ever online 50/50 draw.

Past President John Latour said they decided to launch the online 50/50 after seeing an increase in public interest in online lotteries.

“We wanted to participate,” said Latour. “We think we have a very good cause, hand in hand with some very good money to be won.”

As of 3 p.m. on Nov. 12, the guaranteed payout to the winner was $4,687.50.

Latour says the Gravenhurst Rotary Club supports several different activities and causes.

“We do mental health support, we do education bursaries, we’ve made some significant investments at Gull Lake Rotary Park, including an amphitheatre we just built,” he said.

According to Latour, their biggest project at the moment is the Gravenhurst Health Hub due to the “tremendous” need for primary health providers in the community.

“In the health hub, we are looking to add at least six primary healthcare providers. As well as other activities and medical activities,” he said.

Latour said the funds raised from the 50/50 draw will primarily go towards the health hub. However, a portion of the proceeds will still be allocated towards local causes and the regular programs and activities they support.

Ticket sales will close on November 25 at 11 p.m.

The final draw will take place on November 27 at 12:10 p.m.
