Table Soup Kitchen Foundation to have an ‘All in for The Table Plaza’ fundraising event on Nov. 1

Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is hosting an ‘All in for The Table Plaza’ fundraising event at Hidden Valley Highlands on Nov. 1 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

“The purpose is to raise funds for the Table Plaza. We are in the process of converting the old FreshCo building into a number of different things to extend our ministries in the community and help meet a lot of needs for the hungry, hurting and homeless and also providing a place where the community and our donors can come in support,” said Heather Cassie, the executive director and founder of the food bank.

Cassie said the new facility will be home to the Table Emporium (a downtown grocery store), the Table Exchange Thrift Store, the Table Art Gallery and Hub, and the Table Cafe.

“Our soup kitchen meals will move over there, and we’ll go from having twice-weekly soup kitchen meals to seven days of the week,” she said.

Cassie said they will also have a warming and cooling centre, which will be a 30-bed place with showers, washrooms, a pet kennel, and laundry facilities.

She said the event will include a variety of entertainment, such as live music and karaoke, along with prizes and food crafted by Jagger Gordon, the foundation’s executive chef.

Cassie also mentioned that the event will host several tournaments, including Texas Hold’em, a Mini-Putt, and a Cornhole tournament.
