Hope Arises Project Inc. will host its inaugural Gala of Hope at the Algonquin Theatre on Friday (Oct. 24).
The fundraising event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a mix and mingle, followed by a ribbon skirt fashion show at 7 p.m. and more.
Joyce Crone, president and founder of the organization, says the event is both the first of its kind for Huntsville and the organization’s inaugural fundraising experience since achieving charitable status this past April.
“The purpose of the Gala of Hope is really an expression of radical hope,” says Crone. “We want it to uplift, celebrate and inspire unity in our community and to bring people together and to highlight the accomplishments of Indigenous people.”
Crone says all funds raised will be used to support the organization’s ongoing educational initiatives leading into 2026.
“One is a birch bark canoe build early next fall, which will include, hopefully, students from our local schools,” says Crone. She adds they will also be seeking partnerships with local organizations to support Indigenous youth and the mental health and wellness of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the community
“That’s what Hope Arises is all about, supporting our community, both Indigenous and non-indigenous, and how we can best serve our community and bring our community together in unity,” she says.
Crone says the tickets are $75 and include live drumming, sampling of Indigenous food, a live auction, a screening of the film Red Girl Rising, which was shot in Huntsville, guest speakers and more.
