Huntsville mayoral candidates to take part in debate Sept. 17

Huntsville residents will soon have a chance to hear directly from the candidates vying to become the town’s next mayor.

The Rotary Club of Huntsville and Huntsville Doppler will host a mayoral debate on Sept. 17 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Algonquin Theatre.

Organizers say the debate comes at an important time for Huntsville voters, as it follows the Province of Ontario’s expansion of Strong Mayor Powers to the municipality.

During the debate, organizers say candidates will outline how they would use the mayor’s expanded authority, as well as discuss their broader priorities for Huntsville throughout the next term of council.

Residents are also being invited to submit questions for the candidates in advance. Due to time limitations, a committee of representatives from the Rotary Club of Huntsville and Huntsville Doppler will select the questions considered most pertinent for the debate.
