Huntsville’s River Mill Park to have a new playground this fall

The Town of Huntsville announced a new playground is coming to the River Mill Park this fall.

The town said the playground will be replaced with engaging and accessible equipment designed to provide an enriching play experience for all kids, including as young as toddlers.

“This playground represents our commitment to creating inclusive spaces where children of all abilities can come together to play, learn, and build lasting memories,” said Councillor Dione Schumacher, Chair of the Town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. “We can’t wait to see the community enjoy and explore the new playground.”

New features include an inclusive swing seat with a three-point harness and headrest, a wheelchair-accessible “together glider,” a multi-user basket-style swing, a roller slide for a full-body tactile experience, interactive play panels for cognitive development, and rubber tiles to create a safe and accessible surface for everyone.

Officials said the playground at River Mill Park, installed in 2008, is being replaced due to high usage and significant wear. A new structure was approved in the 2025 budget for $320,000.

As a result, the playground will be closed starting Sept. 23 to allow for the removal of the old equipment and to begin new construction.

No completion date has been announced, but officials said the Town will provide an update on Huntsville.ca and social media when the new space is open to public use.
