Gravenhurst to digitalize the Lions Sports Hall of Fame at the Centennial Centre

The Town of Gravenhurst will digitalize the Lions Sports Hall of Fame at the Centennial Centre to increase its visibility.

During the July council meeting, Shawna Patterson, Director of Recreation, Arts and Culture, presented a report requesting $8,000 from the Lions Hall of Fame reserve fund.

This money would be used to purchase and install digital screen software and wall wrap for the Hall of Fame.

Patterson said the new digital hall of fame will be in the main lobby and will “significantly increase its visibility and ensure all past and present nominees receive the recognition they deserve.”

She said the current Hall of Fame, located on the second floor, isn’t getting much visibility; people only see it if they specifically ask to go up or have another reason to be there.

“So, all of the foot traffic that goes through our facility, they don’t get to see the awesomeness that our community has from an athlete’s perspective,” said Patterson. “As well as history, we have some really cool historical equipment and trophies and different things that could be on display in a digital form.”

Patterson said the requested amount would still leave a balance in the Lions Hall of Fame reserve fund, ensuring they can continue to maintain the physical Hall of Fame and rotate its displays.

“The digital portion allows more people to see it and interact with everything that we have,” she said.

Patterson said that staff will continue to collaborate with the Community Awards Committee to ensure the Hall of Fame is maintained both physically and digitally.

As a result, council unanimously approved the request to digitalize the Lions Sports Hall of Fame at the Centennial Centre.
