Speed limit to be lowered along one stretch of Brunel Road

A safety complaint about Brunel Road is sparking action at town hall. During Tuesday night’s council meeting a concerned resident says the 80 kilometre an hour speed limit between Britannia Road West and Muskoka Road 10 is too fast, especially considering the tight corners. He says there have been many close calls on that stretch of road, and it’s only a matter of time until an accident happens.

The limit currently goes from 50 and builds up to 80, but residents in the area want to keep it at a steady 60. There are around six driveways in that area, one of which is commercial.

Huntsville agreed the current limit is unsafe, with Mayor Scott Aitchison noting he’s tried to drive 80 through there, and it “doesn’t work very well”. The town will now go to the District of Muskoka to have it officially changed.
