Fire department donates $2,000

BRACEBRIDGE, ON-The Bracebridge Fire Department has donated $2,000.00 to The Salvation Army.

On December 9th, the Bracebridge Fire Chief Murray Medley and Fire Prevention Officer Michael Peake met with Lt. Kam Robinson from The Salvation Army to donate money to assist with their annual food drive.

Medley said that a little while ago, the old Fire Department Museum came into the department’s possession. When they found it too hard to manage they decided to give it back to the town. The money they got from doing so, they gave to The Salvation Army.

Robinson said that she was thrilled by the kindness of the Fire Department and the money will be put to good use in preparation for the food drive.

The Salvation Army will also distribute food and Christmas presents from their toy drive to the families of Bracebridge.

While the set up is not complete, The Salvation Army has received hundreds of toys from drives and donations from the Bracebridge community and beyond. “This is a real reflection of the community, its both a give and receive,” said Robinson.

Peake and Medley said that they were surprised at the amount of donations that filled the hall, “this is what happens when the community comes together,” said Peake.

While the children will be able to pick out their Christmas presents, women will be able to pick up the Shoeboxes that were created for them during the Showbox Project. There are also clothes of various sizes and a raffle for some of the larger presents, these include a coffee maker, new pots and pans and a bike.

“We serve about 300 households and those who have reserved a time slot to come in, will be able to choose their presents,” said Robinson.

The event will happen at The Salvation Army Church at 456 Manitoba St. all next week.
