Shoebox project exceeded goal

MUSKOKA, ON-The annual Shoebox Project for Women has exceeded its goals.

The fifth annual Shoebox Project has created 1,449 shoeboxes for the women of Muskoka.

Penny Burns, one of the coordinators for the Muskoka Shoebox Project, brought the program to the Muskoka area with her friends five years ago when they were looking to support their community.

The project is aimed at women who are currently struggling and do not have enough money to buy Christmas presents and supplies.

Each shoebox is filled with items that equal about $50, and decorated uniquely by each person who decides to donate one.

The items range from playing cards, make up, and healthcare products.

Burns said that the shoebox project brings the community together and that its the right thing to do.

Burns ended off by saying, “to the recipients, we are hoping these shoeboxes make you smile this Christmas, that they give you believe in yourself and hope for the future.”
