Local business wins Business Achievement Award

BALA, ON-The Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery has won the Ontario Business Achievement Award at the Ontario Economic Summit.

On November 14th, the award was presented to the farms Retail and Customer Experience Manager, Jean-Ann Baranik.

Based in Bala, the farm has grown to be one of Canada’s largest fruit wineries and has become a tourist destination. According to the press release, thousands gather at the farm to witness the cranberry farming and the wine-making process. In the past couple of years, the winery added an ice trail through their cranberry fields during the winter and has become a huge success with tourists.

Nominated by the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce for the award, Chamber President Spencer Morland said that the winery is a part of Bala’s local identity and that the company is a significant employer for the region.

The Muskoka winery has won four Premier’s Awards making it one of the most agriculturally successful businesses, according to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMSFRA).

Chief Executive Officer for the winery Wendy Hogarth, credited the community for helping them receive this achievement.
