Karin Terziano planning to run for Huntsville mayor

HUNTSVILLE, ON- At least one contender has declared their intentions for the mayor’s seat in Huntsville.

Current Deputy Mayor Karin Terziano told the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom today that she plans to put her name forward for the mayor’s role in the wake of current mayor Scott Aitchison’s federal win in Parry Sound-Muskoka.

Terziano said that she had expected Aitchison to win, though she played her cards close to her chest because she didn’t want to jinx his federal bid. With his win last night, Terziano said she is extremely happy, and described the success as a “long-time dream” for Aitchison.

While she didn’t want to weigh in on the choice of replacement process for Aitchison, she said council could either appoint a replacement or declare a municipal by-election. However, she expected the process to take place over the next 60 days, with an option chosen around December.

Aitchison will be resigning at the next council meeting on Monday.

“Basically, what I’ve done for the last seven weeks, I’ll continue to do that until mid-December when they (council) make a decision,” said Terziano.

“At this time, I think whether council decided on an appointment process or a by-election, I would probably take a stab at the job.”

She said that she had made her decision, and planned to “go for it”. As for whether or not she expected competition, she didn’t want to speak for other people.

In the meantime, she asked residents to be patient as the replacement process unfolds.

“There is a process in place for us to fill Scott’s seat,” said Terziano.

“It will take some time, and hopefully people aren’t expecting all the answers next week.”
