Muskoka Jazz Festival hits sour note

Port Carling’s first Jazz Festival will not hear a note as the event has been cancelled.

A notice on the Muskoka Jazz Festival website said organizers have had to pull the plug ahead of the planned August 24th event.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have had to cancel this year’s Muskoka Jazz Festival,” reads a statement in part. “We began this project with the objective of bringing Muskoka a unique event featuring some of Canada’s finest musical talent and had achieved the objective in securing the support and commitment of a number of the best artists you will find anywhere in the country.”

Organizer Thomas Palloway is the managing director of Headlite Canada and had presented the festival to Muskoka Lakes council this spring.

“Unfortunately, the challenges of organizing this first-time event proved insurmountable for a number of reasons. Thus, in the best interests of all, we have made the decision to cancel this year’s event rather than deliver a less than satisfactory audience experience,” the statement continued.

Ticket buyers may be able to organize a refund through the online ticket seller.

There is no word on how many people purchased tickets for what was going to be an all-day and night concert.
