Muskoka flood update

The rainfall warning could have a big effect on the already historically high flooding we’re having in Muskoka.

Environment Canada says we can expect between 20 and 30mm of rain by Thursday morning. To get ready for that, Bracebridge has called in an additional 100 Canadian Armed Forces Reservists joining the 60 that are already here to help with flood relief. People are also being reminded to stay off the waterways, including with recreational vehicles.

River flows and lake water levels in Huntsville and Port Sydney are slowly continuing to decrease, however, they are still above the high-water mark. The rain that’s in the forecast could delay the water levels receding.

In the Township of Muskoka Lakes water levels have continued to rise over the past 24 hours, although at a reduced rate. Lake Muskoka has risen 2 cm and the Moon River 4 cm. Township officials expect local water levels to peak today.

Bracebridge, Huntsville, The Township of Muskoka Lakes, and the District of Muskoka all remain in a state of emergency.
