Water advisory in effect for residents using wells in flooded areas

Well water could be contaminated in the flooded areas of Muskoka.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is asking anyone who gets their water from private wells to use an alternate source. The organization said during floods there is an increased risk of bacteria getting into wells. They advised anyone with wells to avoid using the water for anything that might cause them to ingest it from brushing their teeth to washing dishes or food.

The health unit added that the precautionary advisory will remain in effect until further notice. It also urged people to test and disinfect their wells once the waters recede. Sample bottles for testing can be picked up and dropped off at the health units in Gravenhurst or Huntsville.

For more information, residents can visit the health unit’s website.
