Residents on Anglo Street in Bracebridge are trying to stop a sales office from being allowed on their street.
An application has been made by Developer Norm Goodfellow. His company Goodfellow Construction is building at 200 Anglo Street. He wants it to be used as a construction and sales office for prospective buyers to view the condos and townhomes he is developing.
A total of 15 homeowners on the street wrote an open letter to council and the planning committee asking to deny the application, stating, “it is quite presumptuous for the developer to build this residential home for the purpose of using it as a Construction Site office/Sales Office, because it is not zoned for this type of business. It is zoned residential.”
Staff is recommending a temporary use amendment to the bylaw that would allow the property to be used commercially until the project concludes.
The development of condos and townhomes along this street has been the subject of a number of hurdles brought forward by residents. Previous meetings have seen the number of parking spots per household reduced for the projects. A recent Local Planning Appeal Tribunal upheld a ruling for a reduced number of 1.2 spots per unit for the 24 unit condo. The developers had been seeking 1.5 spots per unit.
Residents are worried that the nature of the neighbourhood will be changed by the sales office.
A previous development at 191 Anglo Street resulted in traffic chaos they say. The residents say problems related to traffic and construction will be even worse, compounded by extra parking needs when prospective buyers visit the office
Residents are asking council to, “keep the development of 200 Anglo Street to 200 Anglo Street and deny rezoning.”
The request will be brought to council at its meeting tomorrow night.
