Two children dead after snowmobiles go into water

Two children lost their lives in a snowmobile incident today.

The OPP says it happened on Lake Muskoka shortly after midnight. Three snowmobiles with five people riding them broke through the ice and plunged into the water.

Of the five, a 31-year-old Bracebridge man, a 37-year-old Gravenhurst man, and a 14-year-old from Gravenhurst were able to get themselves to shore.

Emergency crews had to get the other two, an 11-year-old from Bracebridge, and a 15-year-old from Gravenhurst, out of the water. They were taken to hospital but their lives couldn’t be saved.

The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Aviation support and Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting in this ongoing investigation in co-ordination with the office of the Chief Coroner. If you have any information about this incident you’re asked to call the Bracebridge OPP at (888)310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
