Bracebridge Director of Public Works honoured for 35 years of service

Bracebridge’s Director of Public Works has been recognized for his decades of service.

Walt Schmid received a Long Service Award from the Ontario Good Roads Association on Tuesday.

Schmid has been in a public service role with a number of municipalities for 35 years and is on the verge of retirement in the spring.

Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith poured praise on Schmid’s work achievements.

“Walt has shown great leadership and incredible dedication to the public sector,” said Smith. “He is held in high esteem by Council, Town staff and the community he serves and we congratulate him and thank him for his significant contributions to the Town.”

The town’s CAO John Sisson nominated Schmid for the award, noting his many years of service in both the private sector and for other municipalities.

Also in attendance for the award presentation was Councillor Steve Clement, Operations Manager for Public Works, Randy Bissonette, along with family members Evan and Kelsey Schmid.
