Muskoka Community Foundation is hoping to help support the next Dara Howell in Muskoka.
The organization is taking applications for Dara’s Fund, a grant that helps local female athletes cover costs of equipment and training. The fund was created in partnership with the local Olympian, as her way to say thank you to the community which supported her in reaching her own athletic achievements.
MFC Executive Director Lynn DeCaro says since 2014, the fund has been successful in helping local athletes like former grant recipient Natasia Verieur who recently competed in an international biathlon competition.
“We are excited to support athletes like Natasia through Dara’s Fund to help them reach their goals,” says DeCaro. “[We’re] so thankful to partners like Deerhurst and everyone else who supports the growth of the fund.”
Since 2014, over $6,800 has been granted to a dozen local athletes through Dara’s Fund.
Athletes who apply need to show true sportsmanship through inclusion, respect and community leadership. The application process runs from February 4th to March 15th.
